Carl Stromberg’s Motion Graphics

My buddy Carl decided to switch gears and try to get a job in motion graphics at a company in KC.  Only problem was he didn’t have any current materials for his portfolio.  He quickly put together three short clips in a week.  I was on the phone with him one night, and he was saying how it’s hard to develop materials for fake products…etc ( which I also agree! ).  Of course I said hey mayajunky.com could use a new logo animation!  Well I went to bed and woke up in the morning with a link in my inbox to this!

Thanks Carl I thought it turned out pretty cool, especially for the time involved!

Downtown Minneapolis Zoomified

Downtown Minneapolis Skyline

Grabbed a nice high resolution shot of Downtown Minneapolis on Easter Sunday from ontop of the C ramp by Target Field. Had to write out half the resolution I had from the stitch because my computer wasn’t liking it, but it’s still about 25000 pixels wide. Anyone looking for a 20ft wide print?

Virtual Tour – Demo House

Get Adobe Flash player

To navigate the tour click on the image and drag the mouse.  Areas you can navigate to will appear as pop-up boxes.  When over a labeled box you can release the mouse to go to the area the mouse is hovering over.  You can resume control of the virtual camera again by clicking dragging the mouse again, even when over-top a labeled box.  As long as you don’t release the mouse over a labeled box you will stay in the current area.  The scroll wheel on the mouse allows you to adjust the focal length of the virtual camera, even up to a very wide angle.

Rolling Path

Came home after work and decided to challenge myself to a quick moGraph session for a new graphic.  Total time was 4 hours ( mostly experimenting  :P ).  Used some cloners, some tracers, some sketch & toon, a bit of animation, and of course some compositing in Photoshop.

I dig the Tron style invert of it as well.  :)

Retro Logo

Finally got off my butt today as well and finished up a retro logo I had started.  Came out cool using a few bend deformers, some spline effectors, and Cinema 4D’s hair and sketch & toon renders.

Had some fun with an alternative quick as well.

Using Mograph 2 for building 3D Graphs

Messed with moGraph today to put together a quick 3d graph. The height of each main bar’s vertical scale is defined by a spline graph mapped along the length of the cloner. As well as using the spline to map a percentage of the gross to define a margin which is displayed via a translation offset of a smaller cube in the same fashion. Two different types of color mapping is use. First on the scaled bars a gradient 2D-U shader with stepped values is mapped via flat projection. While the margin bars are mapped via flat projection as a 2D-V smooth gradient to define the range the margin falls in according to the average goal. Then a shader effector is assigned to the cloner, and the shader tag is dropped on it. The shader effector samples the color channel resulting in solid color for the entire clone object, which is sampled from the interpolated gradient.
