Downtown Minneapolis Skyline

Grabbed a nice high resolution shot of Downtown Minneapolis on Easter Sunday from ontop of the C ramp by Target Field. Had to write out half the resolution I had from the stitch because my computer wasn’t liking it, but it’s still about 25000 pixels wide. Anyone looking for a 20ft wide print?

This might be the shortest post yet. Just some surprising results from a curious click on “auto tone” in Lightroom. Bet you’ll like this one Nate, it turned my too short of a night exposure into a nice daytime exposure.

I suppose it did such a nice job due to a lack of light pollution, considering I was out in the middle of nowhere on the north shore.

To be found just on our planet! Am I addicted to making them if I walk around visualizing what my surroundings would look like deformed into one? Maybe not, but once you have to go though the process to find out then maybe so!

Wide Angle Crazy!

I’ve just been going nuts with my new Tokina 11-16mm wide angle lens, which is probably why it’s been awhile since I’ve posted. Figured I would put up some low-rez versions of the reflection maps I’ve been making. Also been toying with some HDR lighting from a few of these and getting some okay results. Of course I always have to make little planets out of them too!

Noonan Park Geese and Two Ducks

Stopped at Noonan Park here in Alexandria and grabbed a few pictures of some geese and two nervous ducks.

I hope it’s not only animators that think it would be hilarious to see this goose tip-toe along the edge of the water like this.

This one must know it’s on camera.

And finally these two, as close as I could get before they jumped back into the water.

Minneapolis Little Planets

Went shooting with Kutz in Minneapolis last Sunday, we checked out the sculpture garden and I even talked him into standing in a parking lot downtown while I snapped one. He took dozens of pics on our scout and I ended up with a few, mostly panoramas! Next time we’ll have to go macro hunting so I can come home with a few more!

Muddy Speedway

We got some sun for once here in Alexandria so I had to run out after work with the camera and take advantage! Snuck out into the middle of the stock car track here to take a panoramic. Which turned out was still quite muddy, but I was committed at this point. Of course when I got to where I wanted to shoot I realized I had forgotten my shutter release in the car! Well after tracking threw the mud I captured some good data, which I ended up making for a better stitch this time. Woo-hoo, turns out it helps it you set the color temp for each image to match… drrrr. Turned out pretty cool I think.

I’ll have to get a few other HDR’s I took while out there up here too, hopefully they turn out.

Little Planets!

Created my first little planet!

Mainly I’m interested in equatorial projection maps for use in 3d work for reflections but recently I discovered the art of little planets. I had some issues with this first one that I’m going to have to try and avoid next go-around but still got some cool results. Check it out.

Here’s the equatorial panoramic it came from, I did have some issues with stitching as I said before but it’s still around 360deg x 135deg.

Macros for shaders and texture references.

First infrared trys.

Since it was an amazing 35 degrees I decided to go out and try my first infrared images. Worked better then I thought it would in the snow but is gonna take some practice since you can’t see what your focus is exactly with a filter. Is also hard to visualize what is going to look like after a gray scale conversion. My IR filter seems to let in some of the visible red light even though it’s rated at a 720nm cutoff.
